Pretty good

While at its core it's just another side-scroller, the addition of rage and health regen is pretty neat. It was fun how, as you gained rage, your fundamental playing style would become slightly altered. The voice acting (what little there was) wasn't bad, though until you learn what all the moves are it's kind of confusing.

It also inspired me to make a Fury Warrior on WoW. Level 9 right now, woo.

Myroid responds:

Most of the sounds in the game were taken from Warcraft games. The voice acting is no exception. :P

Surprisingly Good

-The graphics could have used some sharpening
-The charging up was kind of clumsy
-Breaking a rock caused lots of slowdown
-Pressing shift over and over caused recursive acceleration allowing you to blast right through the walls
-It's a beta, so it's missing tons of stuff (you said that it would, but still)
-The combo system was really difficult
+The sound was VERY fitting, I liked the Negative Barrier or whatever sound
+Flying was smooth and fun
+The idea was fresh
+Other...plusses

This could be one HELL of a great game when it goes gold. Console quality for sure if you put some time into it with upgrades and fixes and whatnot.

KynetiK-27 responds:

TY very much ^_^

The rock slowdown and teleport spam bugs have been fixed and uploaded, just waiting on newgrounds to upload it, due to its success they must do it by hand.

The sycophant's guide to NG

The entire FAQ is basically saying "Get a few friends to abuse the voting system, kiss as much ass as humanly possible, and go after newbies and black sheep to get undeserved whistle/blam points." As somebody who REALLY despises brown-nosing and selfishness, this guide basically idolizes that behavior that makes NG the gross hive-mind that it's become in the past few years.

highwatermark responds:

Well, the ass-kissing isn't recorded, but your awards are.

Decent

Graphics: Terrible in all accounts except the mask and the sharks.
Style: If it's all actionscript, great work. Very innovative. If you used another program to make it 3D somehow...for shame.
Sound: I can tell the music was made with the NES in mind, as the main instrument for all the songs was a square wave, but you made the same mistake that every NES-style musician does: you used too many instruments. The "during play" song is nothing like the NES, but mad propz to the title song.
Violence: I always vote 0 on violence since it makes no sense.
Interactivity: Well, it IS a game...
Humor: Not laugh out loud humor, but a couple jokes to break up the monotony is nice.

Final vote: 3

RowlandRose responds:

The 3d was all coded by me. I don't think there even is a program to do this for you. That would be cool though. I would someday like to make NES music staying strictly with the 2 square waves, 1 triangle wav, and noise generator. But you are right, staying within one theme for the music, like the title track, probably would have worked better.

Few flaws

#1) Jumping/running was too slow. If you play a real Megaman game, it's much faster. But then, maybe it's my computer's fault.

#2) The music...very short midi loops. Bad bad bad.

#3) AI. There is none. Enemies will simply fire straight ahead until you kill them or leave, without turning to face you or firing only when you're in their line of fire.

Other than those three, this game is great. You included many things from Megaman such as the insta-kill lasers (or...almost insta-kill) and accurate characters/enemies. Vote: 4

Frankenroc responds:

1) Did you try the Quality Toggle button?

2) They're not MIDI loops. They may be short, but I did that to keep the file size down while still making them decent quality.

3) Some people seem to think it's difficult enough as it is. I may work on that, though.

Thanks!

I want to know how you think they'll port this

They MIGHT have ported it about 10 years ago. MIGHT have. It's short, the graphics aren't that good, and it's too hard. It's like playing one of those arcade games you pay ...Oh my God! A standard American keyboard doesn't have a 'cent' sign!

...

Sorry, I got sidetracked. Because this game is BORING. If you hadn't been all "OMFG PS2 VERSOIN" it would have been good, but you had to get all big-headed.

DanPaladin responds:

nobody said anything about ps2, nor was anyone getting big headed.

it was simply stated that this is NOT the console version, so your review is just about null. please take more care in reading!

Yeah

Killerman was right, this game is WAY too fast. I think Maelstormm must have a very bad computer. It was still playable, however. No matter how good Killer's computer is, it's not so great he can't play it.

There were some bits with slowdown. I used a "Zero Rush" technique in which I just kind of held "a" while jumping occasionally. Got me through the levels in about 30 seconds, but my computer was struggling so much by that time I had to die on purpose just to stop the slowmo.

Also, the sound being 1-bit makes it seem like there's a towel over my speakers. Instead of making the sound quality bad, try using shorter songs. None of the levels (if you zero rush) are more than a minute or so long, yet you used 3+ minute songs. Yeah.

However, it was a very fun game, like playing an overclocked Nintendo. Cept it ran a lot smoother.

maelstormm responds:

- My computer is WinXP, 2.6ghz processor, 3gb Ram, and a 128mb videocard. Configured for peak use and only a handful of programs even installed on it. It can render a 3D picture with reflective surfaces, transparencies, and hundreds of objects in a minute or two.

- The sound is 8bit. Almost every song in the game is under 1 minute 30 seconds, with many being below a minute. only 1 or 2 are over 2 minutes long.

Glad you had fun.
